Brow & Lash Tinting: Why They're Worth It
February 3rd, 2025
Are you tired of applying mascara or filling in your brows daily? Maybe you're just curious about how it can enhance your features. So what exactly is tinting?
Tinting is a semi-permanent beauty treatment in which dye is painted onto your eyebrows and eyelashes to give them a thicker, darker, and fuller look. It particularly emphasizes light-colored hair or very fine hair. Since lashes and brows are a bit too close to the eyebrows, it is recommended to opt for a professional treatment, this ensures complete coverage and an accurate color match.
Brow Tinting
During the treatment, a high-quality professional grade tint is directly brushed onto the eyebrows and eyelashes to darken them. Tinted brows look more natural than those darkened by brow pencils because the tint does not leave marks on your skin unlike a pencil. It can be time consuming perfecting the brow on your own, tinting will stay in place without being retouched daily.
An average session takes approximately 20 minutes depending on the shape and work needed to perfect each brow. To begin with, you will be asked to complete a consent form to protect yourself and technician from any potential contraindications. Your technician will then discuss how natural or full you prefer your brows to look. The area will be cleansed, dry and protected with a barrier cream.
The dye and solution is mixed and directly applied using an applicator. The dye is left for a few minutes to process and attain the desired shade, the excess is then removed by using a damp cotton pad or paper towel.
Dye stains left underneath the brows will wash away within a day or two but will stay on the brow hairs anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on individual hair growth and after care.
Eyelash Tinting
Eyelash tinting involves a similar treatment. The protective cream is first applied above and below your eyes to ensure your skin doesn’t stain and under eye pads are applied for extra protection. While your eyes are fully closed, the esthetician will apply the tint to your eyelashes using a small, fine brush. The lashes require at least 10 minutes to set or until the optimal shade is achieved.
The technician will gently remove the dye from your lashes using a cotton swab and cleanse the area thoroughly. Try to stay relaxed during the treatment, and avoid squinting the eyes for safety precautions.
Benefits of Tinting
Eyebrow and eyelash tinting offers a multitude of benefits such as;
Enhances Natural Features: By tinting, brows and lashes appear fuller, darker, longer, and more defined without mascara or more involved treatments.
Saves Time and Increases Convenience: Tinting eliminates the need for daily mascara and brow application, saving time and effort in a daily makeup routine.
Produces Long-Lasting Results: Unlike mascara or brow products which are reapplied daily, tinting typically lasts several weeks, depending on individual hair growth and after care.
Is Waterproof and Smudge-Proof: Ideal for individuals who want to maintain their shade during workouts, swimming, or humid weather conditions.
Is Customizable: A wide range of shades can be mixed together to create the desired color payoff, allowing for natural-looking enhancements to boulder, more dramatic effects, depending on the clients desired intensity.
Precautions
There is a possibility you may experience a slight stinging sensation in your eyes or skin irritation around the brows and/or lashes during the treatment. Every possible precaution will be taken to prevent such a reaction. If you do feel discomfort, your eyes will be flushed with a saline solution and/or soothing ointment applied to the affected skin. However, if you have sensitive skin, it's advised to avoid this service.
The treatment is safe for contact wearers but it is recommended to remove them before the service due to the potential to capture fumes and become dry. As a result, you may feel irritation in your eyes.
If it’s your first time receiving a tinting treatment or worried about any possible reaction, it's recommended to opt for a patch test 48 hrs before provided treatment. The patch test will be conducted by applying a small amount of tint either behind one ear, or on the inside of your elbow. After 45 minutes, the tint can be removed. If you show any symptoms within 48 hrs such as redness, itching, swelling or any sort of discomfort it is then not safe to continue.
